Consumed

"If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world." –C.S. Lewis

This past week at Youth Camp 07 we looked at the theme of being consumed. When someone is consumed with something they pursue it with all their heart. In fact there are several definitions that it could mean:

Consume:

1: to do away with completely : destroy

2: to spend wastefully : squander

3: to eat or drink esp. in great quantity or to enjoy avidly : devour

4: to engage fully : engross

5: to utilize as a customer

These definitions come from the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary. As we enter back into the Blazing Center series remember the definition that John Piper refers to when we talk about Christian Hedonism: “God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him.” A hedonist pursues pleasure but a Christian hedonist pursues pleasure in God. Think of the psalmist as he writes these words in...

Psalm 42: 1 As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?

Where is your heart trying to be satisfied? Is it in the Living Water of Christ or in the dried empty wells of this world? What are you consumed by?
